Where to play pinball in Germany

You can play pinball at Freddy’s Pinball Paradise in Germany has over 100 machines located in Echzell which is a small country town about 45 minutes north of Frankfurt by car. Europe’s biggest pinball supplier who opens his doors for the public to play once a month on the last Saturday of every month.

The range of machines at Freddy’s

There is a large variety of the newest machines, Freddy telling me he gets a new pinball every 6 weeks now. Which sounds amazing to the average Joe but becoming a massive problem for him as he is just about to run out of room.

As well as going back to the old EM machines with the ding ding and rolling number scores. To everything in the middle. The machines were in great shape only finding one with some damage that was caused on the night.

What they don’t have

1st of there are no Gottlieb machines here. Freddy asked me what machines I have 3 of them being Gottliebs he laughed and said you won’t find them here. Gottlieb cop a lot of flack in the pinball world although I am personally going to find it hard to ever part with my Super Mario Brothers & Tee’d Off machines. Waterworld I may one day part ways with but not until I wipe the ridiculously high score off it!

You also won’t find any of the new company Spooky Pinball Machines here because their machines are not CE compliant. I had seen the CE written on electrical items before but was unsure what it meant. Here is a snippet from metlabs website explaining:
CE stands for Conformité Européenne (French), which means European conformity.  CE marking is a self-declaration where a manufacturer proves compliance with EU health, safety and environmental protection legislation and confirms a product’s compliance with relevant requirements.

I guess this is a good enough excuse to have to go to the USA to play them all!

Opening Hours of Freddy’s Pinball Paradise, Germany

Held on the last Saturday of every month

They were open from between (2 pm-5 pm) until 1 am. They sometimes stay open later depending on numbers. Check there official page as every month seems to have different opening hours.

Cost of Entry

20 Euro per person for entry. 97% of the machines are free to play. There is a side room with about 5 or 6 machines that have just been released which cost 1-2 euros a game. There are still many new machines you can play at no additional cost.

Beer & Food

Freddy’s Pinball Paradise have a bar stocked with German beer & has really reasonable priced drinks and some light food options to keep you going throughout the night. The barstools are hilarious you sit at the bar on a horse saddle chair.

Driving would be the best option around 45 mins from Frankfurt Central and Frankfurt Airport. Although you can catch a train that takes around 1 hour from central Frankfurt.

The closest train station is a 5-minute walk / 450 meters.
You would have to catch the train to ECHZELL STATION and walk a short distance or catch a taxi / uber if they are available.

When I was planning my trip to Japan I really wanted to dive deep into the quirky side of the Japanese culture. Never in a million years would I expect to find Mr Kanso restaurant in Osaka Japan that has an entire menu consists of only canned foods. Im not sure this would work anywhere else other than Japan.

Boasting around 300 choices from around the globe with choices of things you would never imagine being available in a can from soups to sea lion the more you look the stranger it gets.

When we arrived at Mr Kanso’s I was quite surprised how nice the atmosphere was. It is an up market style venue with a river view. My thoughts before arriving was a little local shop where I could try some strange canned foods to take away.

To work out the cost of a particular can on the bottom is a coloured dot or maybe 2. Match with the price guide in store to work out the price. If there is 2 dots you have to add them together for final price.

The Venue & Location

The location is overlooking the Dotonburi River. I was not expecting such a nice venue for a canned food bar.

So tempted with so many never tried before options I opted for the sake & soy marinated horse to stick with the Japaneese theme. It was surprisingly good for canned food and would eat again in a heartbeat.

A man walks into a bar. There’s a camel. He’s offered absinthe. There’s still a camel in a bar am I high? He drinks the absinthe.

What now there’s Bambi sitting on the table. He orders another absinthe. Where did that sea lion come from? He drinks the absinthe, Why are there all these animals talking to each other in a bar on the 5th floor of an office building.

This could well be the most awkward unusual bar you will ever step into. It is like your wildest nightmare come true. The theme reminded me so much of Rob Zombies movie house of 1000 corpses Let me say even after looking at the photos there is no real way to capture the ambience that has been so well orchestrated and the only way is to visit yourself!

Upon entering we were greeted by King the owner of the bar who speaks fluent English & Japanese in his outstanding attire.

He let us know that there was no menu and it is an Absinthe Bar if we would like a cocktail. We just ordered 2 rounds of 3 beers and a tea. The bill came to 6000 yen. I’m sure if you had an absinthe or 2 your experience would truly be the next level!

King let us know that from 2 am on Saturdays his band play live in the bar. We wanted to return but never made it back as a pub crawl took us to a different area.

The bar has lots of taxidermy including a full-sized camel in the bar. Other animals on display include a dear, sea lion, fox, kangaroo paw & eagle. The more you look the more you find. There is stuff plastered over the ceiling and walls. Just don’t look in the mirror if you sit on the toilet.

Getting there

Getting here is half the fun! After following the directions from google below you will come to an elevator next to a restaurant slightly inside the building. It is not listed on the directory as Kinguu Bar but instead in Chinese characters. It is on the 5th floor.

Condoms & Cabbages has to be one of my favourite restaurants in Bangkok! Such a unique quirky theme. Yet the food is to die for. My personal favourites are the purple dumplings. I always try and make a stop here on a trip to Bangkok. The prices are a little high, But the proceeds go to a good cause. Quite possibly the only restaurant to give you a condom instead of an after-dinner mint! They have a gift shop that you can buy some bizarre condom related merchandise. Or just walk around after a meal and meet Santa Condom Clause and the other Condom made hosts. This place is so condom crazy even the light shades are made of them. The restaurant’s motto is “our food won’t make you pregnant”

What more could you ask for when dining other than to be served over a table full of frangers. Let’s just pray they are unused.
